In his later life, he immigrated to the US, taught at several universities, and worked at the Library of Congress. He would be best known for developing the idea of Baltoscandia, or the Baltoscandian Confederation - the subject of the current booklet - first put forward by Swedish Professor Sten de Geer in 1928. A geopolitical concept, it proposed a Baltic - Scandinavian union, comprised of 8 countries - Lithuania, Norway, Finland, Iceland, Denmark, Estonia, Latvia, and Sweden. For the purpose of withstanding the influence from the big countries, a geographical, cultural, economic, political, and military unit was to be formed and maintained by the small nations.
