Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book offers a fascinating glimpse into the history of a lesser-known guild: the Tin Plate Workers of London. It chronicles the Company's formation in 1670, following the petition of a group of skilled artisans seeking to formalize their trade and separate from the Ironmongers' Gui…ld. The author traces the Company's journey through its early years, highlighting its struggles with maintaining order within the trade, enforcing quality standards, and engaging in legal battles against hawkers and other encroachers. The narrative delves into the Company's efforts to secure its place within the City of London, charting its evolution from a free company to a livery company in 1766. It also sheds light on the intricate workings of the guild during a period of significant social and economic change, showcasing the impact of industrialization and the rise of new technologies on the tin -plate trade. Throughout the book, the author brings to life the daily concerns and triumphs of these skilled craftsmen, capturing the spirit of a bygone era.
