In Lanzhou he established close cooperation with Father LEO VAN DIJK who on request provided him, i.a, with a set of 443 Chinese popular deities drawn in India ink. This book presents that rare pantheon. Brief information is given on all identifiable figures besides references to literature. The original mythological comments of Father VAN DIJK are quoted for each item. This book is a rich source for everyone interested in Chinese folk religion and its iconography. No similar work exists comprising such an extensive repertoire of individual figures.
