This is a us…eful work for those interested in this Beeton work as Isabella Beeton died at 28, and subsequent editions of her work were added to and transformed by many other people so that later copies bear little resemblance to the original material. Here we find Beeton's instructions to whiten scorched linen by using "dried fowl's dung" (2283), and for making a boot polish using red wine (3 pounds ordinaire) as one of its ingredients. There are many, many recipes but these have not been veted for modern cooks. (3.5 JM LVR 205/3 Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾".

Isabella Mary Beeton was born in London in 1836, where she grew up in a household of twenty-one children. It took Isabella four years to compile her masterwork, publishing Mrs Beeton's Book of Household Management in 1861. It contains an enormous amount of information to help people live in Isabella Beeton's own words, "economically, tastefully and well''. Her style, imparting information as clearly and simply as possible, was hugely influential. Her book sold 60,000 copies in the first year, but Isabella Beeton died four years later in 1865, aged just twenty-eight. The enduring popularity of Mrs Beeton's Book of Household Management is testament to the quality of these timeless recipes.
