Oversize softcover, between a quarto and folio size. A fair copy in a poor glassine wrapper. 98 plates in black and white, with four additional plates on brown paper tipped in color. Externally, fragile in appearance with heavy damage to the spine column - with a split to the binding paper from the top, and paper loss across the top and bottom. Corners bent and some creasing at the top rear. Inside is much better - a sweet gift inscription to the top of the front endpaper appears to be the only marking. Where present, text is in French. The plates are solidly bound in, with the 4 color additions from Bernheim being significantly looser. The glassine wrapper is hanging on by a thread, but included as it appears original to the publication. Thick pages, a beautiful, scarce collection.…

Where Parallel, with its daring layout and the choice of printing the lithographs in pink, had been disconcerting, the layout of this second book is more classical, the illustration being clearly separated from the text. However, at the time of its publication, it remained "shunned by bibliophiles, who for a long time refused to see it as an appropriate illustration technique for luxury books because it was considered too commercial, even vulgar" (Limited edition.
