Josep Torres Clavé (1906-1939) empezó a diseñar muebles y objetos para su círculo familiar, afición que más tarde desarrollaría de forma sistemática dentro del entorno del GATCPAC (Grupo de Arqui…tectos y Técnicos Catalanes para el Progreso de la Arquitectura Contemporánea), del que fue fundador y principal impulsor. También jugó un papel fundamental en los dos principales órganos de difusión del ideario del grupo: la revista AC y la tienda MIDVA, fundada con Josep LLuís Sert y Antonio Bonet Castellana. Esta monografía es la primera sistematización de la obra de este arquitecto y diseñador catalán. Escrita por su hijo Raimon, en ella convergen materiales y experiencias que contribuyen al conocimiento, análisis y comprensión de sus diseños y del protagonismo que ejerció en la difusión de las vanguardias artísticas de los años 30, dedicación que le supuso su posterior condena al olvido en los años del franquismo. Así, Torres Clavé emerge como un personaje clave en la introducción de la arquitectura y el diseño contemporáneos en España y como creador de piezas que se convirtieron en emblemas del «mueble moderno».
