El libro analiza en detalle seis de las coplas más famosas de la Piquer a la luz de medidas específicas de la represión franquista. La autora propone que al cantar estas coplas con la radio durante décadas, los vencidos pudieron elaborar clandestinamente el duelo, aprendieron recursos para sobrellevar el terror, pudieron recuperarse lentamente del trauma y recuperaron la dignidad personal.
