Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - Sound, sense and the old tongue. A living map of rhyme. A tool for quick rhyme. Manipulus Vocabulorum is one of the earliest practical rhyming dictionaries of the English language: a compact, ears-first guide composed in 16th century English and preserved in early modern English orthography. Arranged to show English word rhymes rather than alphabetical meaning, it reads as both a poetic composition tool and a reference for curious readers. Poets, playwrights and lyricists will find unexpected partners for a line; writers and editors may use it as a reliable historical English reference; students and scholars treat it as a linguistics study aid. Beyond pure utility, the volume throws up archaic forms and surprising spellings that illuminate the period's rhythms, making it a rewarding resource for language learners and anyone tracing the development of English usage.Of genuine literary and historical importance, Manipulus Vocabulorum marks a turning point in how English was catalogued for creative use. Later generations regarded it as a Victorian language resource and as one of the reference works for poets that informed rhyme practice through the centuries. Republished by Alpha Editions in a careful modern edition, this volume preserves the spirit of the original while making it effortless to enjoy today - a heritage title prepared for readers and collectors alike. It suits practical composition - from contemporary poets seeking archaic colour to academics charting phonetic change - and its arrangement rewards quick consultation. As a teaching supplement it functions as a language learners resource and supports classroom work in historical linguistics. Collectors of classic English dictionaries will appreciate its provenance and contextual value, while casual readers gain a readable window into 16th century English life and expression. As part of any writers and poets collection or a suite of classic reference works, it serves both the pragmatic needs of composition and the pleasures of historic text.…
