Paperback. Condition: New. The year 1968 has widely been viewed as the only major watershed moment during the latter half of the twentieth century. Rethinking Social Movements after '68 takes on this conventional approach, exploring the spaces, practices, organization, ideas and agendas of numerous activists and movements across… the 1970s and 1980s. From the Maoist Communist League to the women's movement, youth center movement, and gay liberation movement, established and emerging scholars across Europe and North America shed new light on the development of modern European popular politics and social change.

In the fall of 1991 Roger de la Burdé held an exhibition of some of his art collection at Virginia Commonwealth University's School of the Arts, Anderson Gallery. This is the published catalog for the exhibit, titled "Private Stories, Selections from the de la Burdé Collection". The… exhibit featured the paintings of Michael Goldberg, Rainer Gross, Jay Milder, and Jeff Way, and was was held from August 23 to October 20, 1991. A typed letter from Roger de la Burdé to a potential patron, dated September 1991, is signed in black ink by Burdé. . The de la Burdé story , itself, became anything but private, when in March of 1992 he was found dead from a bullet wound to the head. Roger de la Burdé was a controversial person, hailing from Poland, who styled himself a count. He owned considerable collections of art, focusing on African Art and Modern Art. The catalog here presented is of Contemporary Art, and has striking color reproductions of the paintings. The letter, signed by Burdé in ink, was found pressed between the leaves of the catalog, and is addressed to a potential patron of the arts and typed on his personal stationery, which has printed at the top, Roger Z. Cte de la Burdé, Windsor, Powhatan, Virginia. The letter is dated September 12, 1991. Hardcover. Condition: new. Hardcover. Greening Democracy explains how nuclear energy became a seminal political issue and motivated new democratic engagement in West Germany during the 1970s. Using interviews, as well as the archives of environmental organizations and the Green party, the book traces the development of anti-nucl…ear protest from the grassroots to parliaments. It argues that worries about specific nuclear reactors became the basis for a widespread anti-nuclear movement only after government officials' unrelenting support for nuclear energy caused reactor opponents to become concerned about the state of their democracy. Surprisingly, many citizens thought transnationally, looking abroad for protest strategies, cooperating with activists in other countries, and conceiving of 'Europe' as a potential means of circumventing recalcitrant officials. At this nexus between local action and global thinking, anti-nuclear protest became the basis for citizens' increasing engagement in self-governance, expanding their conception of democracy well beyond electoral politics and helping to make quotidian personal concerns political. Greening Democracy explains how nuclear energy became a seminal political issue and motivated democratic engagement in West Germany during the 1970s. It charts how anti-nuclear protest became the basis for citizens' increasing engagement in self-governance, expanding conceptions of democracy beyond electoral politics and helping to make quotidian personal concerns political.
