No pretende esta colección sentar cátedra sino invitar a pensar por qué la música ha evolucionado de una manera determinada y no de otra. Los criterios de acercamiento son plurales y abiertos, sin ningún tipo de dogmatismo, buscando más la sugerencia que la tesis, la información precisa que la especulación, el espíritu científico que la ficción. En el fondo pretenden estos sustanciosos ensayos suministrar claves para disfrutar más con la música, situándola en sus contextos, subrayando sus prioridades, indagando en sus rebeldías. Las aportaciones provienen de diferentes universidades o instituciones de España y América, y buscan en la diversidad un enriquecimiento de planteamientos y posturas. Hay una apertura a la brillantez de las nuevas generaciones pero sin prescindir de la sabiduría de los expertos. El resultado de todo ello es apasionante, tanto por su complejidad como por la resistencia a un encasillamiento. La Historia de la Música en España e Hispanoamérica no se agota, evidentemente, en estas páginas. La síntesis de los rasgos esenciales de la música del siglo XX en España plantea problemas específicos que sobrevuelan sobre cualquier enfoque. Está todo demasiado cercano para que las conclusiones sean definitivas. Hay un factor de riesgo añadido en las opiniones, al no haber entrado en juego la consolidación del paso del tiempo. Para evitar posturas determinadas en una u otra dirección se optó para este volumen por un coordinador joven que garantizase la frescura de una nueva mirada. La dedicación a la musicología y a la zarzuela de Alberto González Lapuente se complementa por el oficio de escribir y su dedicación periodística. Cuenta además con un equipo multidisciplinar en el que militan Jorge de Persia, Gemma Zalduondo, German Gan y Víctor Pliego. Con sus aportaciones el volumen se enriquece gracias a la variedad de propuestas que despliegan. Las bases de un acercamiento están, en cualquier caso, sobre la mesa y boca arriba.
