As a result, many patients seek help from various "alternative and complementary" practitioners. Medical skills are best learned by apprenticeship, and no book can substitute for hands-on experience. Nonethe- less, I have endeavored in this book to integrate several approaches that attempt to solve the many diffi- culties one encounters when treating pain patients. It is intended for clinicians interested in integrative medicine, that is, combining the best of both western and oriental medicine.
