In Band 5 des Katalogs der griechischen Handschriften der Bayerischen Staatsbibliothek Munchen werden 83 Handschriften, viele davon aus dem Grundungsbestand und fruhen Erwerbungen der Bibliothek, vorgestellt. Mehr als die Halfte der in diesem Katalog beschriebenen Codices stammt aus der Sammlung des Augsburger Handelsherrn Johann Jakob Fugger (1516-1575) sowie aus der Gruppe von 50 Handschriften, die der bekannte Schreiber und Handschriftenhandler Andreas Darmarios im Jahr 1583 an Herzog Wilhelm V. von Bayern verkaufte. Daruber hinaus waren insgesamt 16 Handschriften Teil der Mannheimer Hofbibliothek, die sich seit 1803 in Munchen befindet. Die restlichen Codices stammen aus den Bibliotheken des Philologen und Orientalisten Johann Albrecht Widmanstetter (1506-1557), der Familie Occo, der Herzoge von Wurttemberg (als Teil der Tubinger Kriegsbeute 1635 nach Munchen gebracht) und des Florentiner Humanisten Petrus Victorius (1499-1585) sowie aus sakularisierten altbayerischen Klostern. Die meisten Bande enthalten schwerpunktmassig entweder theologische und liturgische Werke oder klassische, spatantike und byzantinische Texte profaner Literatur. Daruber hinaus finden sich punktuell Handschriften medizinischen und juristischen Inhalts, humanistische Sammelhandschriften sowie ein bebilderter Pilgerfuhrer fur Jerusalem und das Heilige Land.
