Book
Hardcover. Condition: Good. 2 volumes octavo 8 1/2 x 5 3/4 inches, very handsomely leather bound in full morocco, spines gilt in compartments, boards with ornate window gilt fillets enhanced with fleurons, all edges gilt. Illustrated with a portrait in volume two and full page plate of Plashet House (plate uncalled for), plus three illustrations in the text (possibly bound without a silhouette in volume one). An interesting ownership history- inscription of John Ryle Wood (1806-1886) saying 'this book belonged to that portion of the library of Queen Adelaide as was bequeathed to me by Her Majesty' and signed and dated 1849. He was the tutor to Prince George 2nd Duke of Cambridge and chaplain to King William IV and Queen Adelaide. A handsome copy with a vaguely royal association.
