Wenn man mehrere Aufnahmen mit dem gleiehen koharenten Untergrund und der gleichen Belichtungsdauer macht, kann das Negativ eine durchgelassene Amplitude ergeben, die der Summe der den einzelnen Aufnahmen entsprechenden Amplituden gleich ist. Wenn das Negativ beleuchtet wird, ist es moglich, diese einzelnen Amplituden, obwohl sie zu verschiedenen Zeiten aufgezeichnet wurden, miteinander interferieren zu lassen. Die Moglichkeit, zum ersten Male beliebige streuende Objekte durch Interferometrie zu untersuchen, stellt vielleicht eine der interessantesten Moglichkeiten der Holographie dar.
