Hardcover. Condition: new. Hardcover. The profession of social work in the United States has a complex history of upholding White supremacy alongside a goal of achieving racial justice. Moreover, the profession simultaneously practices within racist institutions and systems and works to dismantle them. While there are many ways that the profession of social work has improved quality of life for minoritized groups, there are numerous missed opportunities where we have failed to uphold our values. In thewake of national movements to stop state-sanctioned violence and anti-Black racism and the knowledge of persistent racial disparities in key social welfare institutions (i.e., child welfare, criminaljustice, health, housing, and mental health), these paradoxes remain the forefront of discussion in academia, social media, and social work practice. The aftermath of these national efforts provided an opportunity to appraise our profession's relationship to White supremacy and racial justice in order to reimagine and work to achieve an anti-racist future. In this edited volume, the authors critically examine social work's history, values, and mission, offer innovativestrategies for education and practice, and make a call-to-action for social work to eliminate structural racism in education, research, practice, and social service institutions and systems. A collectionof 40 chapters using diverse voices, theories, and methods challenges us to conceptualize and enact an anti-racist future through reckoning with our past histories of oppression and resistance, de-centering whiteness, and forging new practices, policies, and pedagogies that can lead to an anti-racist future. This volume offers an examination of the history of racism and White supremacy in the profession of social work, current efforts to address and repair the harms caused by racism and White supremacy within the profession, and forward-thinking strategies for social work to be part of a broader societal movement to achieve an anti-racist future. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.…

Contact seller5-star seller4to. [2], 58 leaves, carbon copy typescript, some leaves bearing faint typewriter impressions in blind, w/ 5 additional typescript carbon copy leaves laid-in, some on onion skin paper, partial tears, edgewear to right fore-edges of a couple leaves. With 8 large folding (7 hand-coloured) blueprint maps, including 1 large "Key Map" sized at an impressive 86 x 14 in. (some minor closed tear paper repairs on verso, toning to a couple folds), and 7 numbered blueprint maps sized from 15 x 11 in. up to 48 x 11 in., all hand-coloured w/ additional annotations. Original hand-lettered gray-green split-pin binder, w/ only front cover present (edgewear, scuffing, minor tears, couple discrete paper repairs on verso), still a good original exemplar, bearing original signatures of the Union Pacific System executives in Washington & Oregon. This extraordinary original Union Pacific System typescript manuscript industrial survey report of Oregon & Washington Railroad Co., and Oregon-Washington Railway & Navigation Co. rail lines and industrial properties offers an historic visual and textual examination of property development around Elliott Bay into South Seattle, and the Duwamish River during the Roaring 20's. The Union Pacific had purchased a majority share of the original Oregon Railway & Navigation Co. in 1898 in order to gain a gateway into the booming Pacific Northwest market driven largely by the Klondike Gold Rush. In 1910 the company had established OR&N as a subsidiary renamed the Oregon-Washington Railroad & Navigation Co., and by the 1920's when this report was prepared they were working to improve their infrastructure, streamline operations, and enhance their freight capabilities on track lines often shared with the Great Northern and Northern Pacific railroads. After surviving the post-World War I recession, the opening of the Pacific Highway and bleeding of freight traffic to overland roadways began cutting into Union Pacific, and the other railroads profit margins. This in-house report was intended to demarcate with the large folding hand-coloured blueprint maps of the vast railyards along the Seattle waterfront by classifying either as "Industrial" properties which were sites served by Union Pacific System Rail Lines, and/or where UP railcars had access on parity with other lines, as opposed to "Non-Industrial" tracts which were unreachable by the UP service, due to topography, location, surrounding districts, or other industrial identity issues. More importantly, the report carefully outlines the entire survey of properties in Seattle, their relative values at the time, specific industries, and businesses operating in, or around the sites, as well as proposals to further develop them. The immense "Key Map" stretches over 7 feet long when unfolded, revealing the assorted industrial sites demarcated in the report, along the Salmon Bay, Salmon River, Elliott Bay, and down into the Duwamish of South Seattle along Elliott Bay. This cataloguer was unable to find a similar map in any holdings.Map 1 focuses on an abandoned right of way on Salmon Bay owned by O&W RR Co., & O-W RR&N Co., recommending they retain in the UP system; Map 2 focuses on Gilman's Addition, and other properties consisting of swamp lands in and around the companion Northern Pacific Line; Map 3 includes Denny's Addition blocks, and Seattle Tide Lands, with recommendations to either hold for possible UP offices, or sell off to the NP or Great Northern, and Map No. 5 show's Ladd's First Addition, and vacated blocks in Seattle well-situated for small manufacturing. Map No. 4 is another quite large one stretching over four feet long indicating plots near Maynard's addition, those in the extension of Prefontaine Place, and below grade near the Jackson Street Viaduct. Also parts of Lots 17, 18, & 19, Block 329 in the Seattle tide lands include parts of the Seattle Freight Station, and recommended the site for future freight and trackage facilities for expansion. Map 6 traces along Bredes Addition and Duwamish Avenue, and includes Site No. 17 occupied at the time by the Vulcan Iron Works, while Map 7 comprises the extreme northerly end of the UP System railroad holding, known as Harbor Island Property.Within less than 10 years, the Union Pacific would heavily expand around the Argo Yard in South Seattle, which served as a key hub connecting agricultural and industrial shipments into Elliott Bay steamship lines. The Union Pacific Beaux-Arts terminal was a thriving passenger hub, which did initially slump in the early two-three years of the Great Depression, but after the introduction of their City Streamliners in 1934, their increased passenger traffic helped to grow Seattle, despite the falloff of freight and industrial development. No similar reports, or printed abstracts, or copies located in Worldcat, or, the proprietary blueprint maps.…
