Paperback. Condition: New. This comprehensive listing and discussion of poetic works supports the standards of all areas of the curriculum, helping librarians and teachers working with kindergarten through middle school students. This second edition of Using Poetry Across the Curriculum: Learning to Love Language offers a comprehensive list of poetry anthologies, poetic picture books, and poetic prose works in a wide variety of subject areas. While it maintains the original edition's focus on ideas and resource lists for integration of poetry into all areas of the curriculum, it is thoroughly revised to cover current issues in education and the wealth of new poetry books available. The book is organized by subject areas commonly taught in elementary and middle schools, and, within these, by the national standards in each area. Numerous examples of poetry and poetic prose that can be used to help students understand and appreciate aspects of the standard are listed. A sampling of units that arise from groups of works, writing and performance ideas, and links across the curriculum is also included. While many teaching ideas and topics provide references to the standards they meet, this title is unique in starting with those standards and making links across them.…

Soft cover. Condition: Good. No Jacket As Issued. First Edition. Come See Where Jesus Lived by Barbara Brady was published by the Strathmore Co., Aurora, Illinois, in 1954. Not an ex-library copy, this approximately 6 3/8" X 8", 58-year-old, 18-page offering is in G condition. In overall still sound physical shape, there is some yellowing of text's pages, the original(?) young owner's name is written, in firm pencil, in the proper spot on the inside of the front cover board, and, FINALLY, the "coated film" which is/was used to erase the "magic slate" is extremely brittle, so much so that if you just look at it in a threatening manner, or any manner whatever, it breaks off in little pieces/strips! At age 58, I'd have been shocked and surprised if such was not the case regarding the slate's "eraser". From reverse side of front cover, "Magic Slate--story book activities [featuring] three wonderful, exciting ways to play--all in one book. .Because ancient Israel looked so different from modern America, children sometimes think of it as a storybook land, instead of a real place. This book helps to make the country Jesus knew real to [a] child. Besides the story of Jeanie and Robb and their trip to Nazareth, you will find pictures and puzzles to use with the Magic Slate. Activities in this book may be re-used, time after time, by child after child." NO, the Magic Slate is not functional, so, NO, the activities are not re-usable, but the extremely readable informative story(whether by, or to, young ones) is the focal point of this publication, anyway, Reader. And, said story is beautifully complemented by the page-by-page Drawings of one Ray Chatton, pictures/puzzles executed in single primary colors--red, blue, green, or orange--each in combination with white and various grays. Interesting, vintage slice of Americana, circa the mid-Fifties, of one strategy to present Jesus as a living, breathing person in the minds of their children, perhaps struggling a bit to wrap their minds around the enormity of Christ's being/message/purpose while on earth. Thanks!. Ray Chatton (illustrator).…
