Boards have moderate shelf wear with… mild bumping and fraying to corners and crushing and fraying to spine ends. All surfaces tanned and sunned, particularly spine. Some additional heavy marks and staining. Boards are slightly bowed.

The author's dissertation, nicely bound in green cloth with gilt lettering and decorative bands. 215 pages, many b&w photos, tables. Solid binding, except the first few pages are loosening. Clean except for name of prior owner written neatly in old script on the title page…. Pages are slightly warped near the binding, apparently due to a slight binding defect, because there is no evidence of exposure to moisture. Cover is very slightly worn, with the gilt starting to wear and fade. 6.5x10.

Formerly Professor of Physics at the University of Stockholm - TRANSLATED BY J. HARDEN WITH AN INTRODUCTION BY SIR OLIVER LODGE, F.R.S. - Carl Axel Fredrik Benedicks, born 27 May 1875 in Stockholm, and died in 1958. He was a Swedish metallograf and physicists of the family Benedicks. He was half-brother to Gustaf Benedicks. He was during 1910 to 1922; Professor of Physics at the University of Stockholm. During 1920 to 1935; superintendent of The Metallographic Institute in Stockholm, for which he was the instigator. He carried out work in geology, mineralogy, chemistry, physics, astronomy, and mathematics. He would be the first who demonstrated the ability of ultra-microscopic metal structures and their importance in theoretical and practical terms. He was also able to completely recreate natural meteoric iron. From 1916, he performed a series of studies in thermoelectricity. In 1919, he became a member of the Academy of Engineering Sciences, and in 1922, became a member of the Society of Sciences in Uppsala and in 1924 became a member of the Academy of Sciences. Priced on spine at 4/- NET to spine. Very minor [3mm] chips to top and bottom of spine and corners. Spine has darkened in comparison to the front and rear panels. Magnificently rare all the same! - Boards are light green cloth with black lettering to the spine and front board. These are in a very good condition. Spine colour has lightened. Clean, and tightly bound to inner page block. There are 98 pages. Paper is thick and superb quality. Apart from some browning on the front and rear blank endpages, all pages are clean and tightly bound. There are a few additional pages to the rear which list Methuen's books on Physics and Chemistry.
