Tête de série de cette revue médicale lilloise qui a paru pendant plus d'un siècle (jusqu'en 1981). Fascicule très rare. Cette publication de Béchamp et Baltus, sur la pathogénie de l'albuminurie, occupe les pages 1 à 27 de cette brochure. Elle a paru presque simultanément dans les Annales de chimie et de physique (1878, 5e série, tome XIX, pp. 512-543) et dans ce Journal des Sciences médicales de Lille. Joseph Béchamp, docteur en médecine et pharmacien, était le fils et l'élève du chimiste Antoine Béchamp (1816-1908) qui venait d'être nommé professeur à la nouvelle faculté catholique de Lille, après avoir été professeur de chimie médicale et de pharmacie à Montpellier. L'une des conditions posées par Antoine Béchamp à sa venue à Lille était l'obtention d'une chaire pour son fils et son autre élève, Ernest Baltus (1851-1937). Joseph Béchamp devint ainsi titulaire d'une chaire de chimie analytique et toxicologie, chaire alors inédite en France. Les auteurs rapportent ici des expériences personnelles, réalisées en 1877-78, certaines inédites, comme cela est précisé p. 24. Les résultats de ces expériences sont les suivantes : "Après leur injection dans le sang, certaines albumines restent dans l'organisme ; d'autres, au contraire, sont éliminées et se retrouvent dans les urines", transformées ou non transformées (blanc d'oeuf).
