Seller: Michael Treloar Booksellers ANZAAB/ILAB, Adelaide, SA, Australia
Condition: Very Good. Melbourne, The Southern Cross Hotel, [1960s]. Small foolscap; colour pictorial card folded once; spine a little rubbed and splitting at the foot; even so, an excellent copy. Quite apart from the hotel's boast of being 'Australia's Finest Hotel', this Coolibah Coffee Shop menu makes a special feature of their 'Steak Namatjira', 'a thin minute steak grilled to perfection and smothered in a tantalising Arnhem Land Sauce'. If that were not evidence of both Namatjira's enormous and continuing broad-based popularity at the time (he was commemorated on a postage stamp in 1968), the dish must also have proved popular, because there is a proviso; 'Sorry we can't disclose recipe'. A card advertising 'Prime Roast Christmas Turkey and Ham with Cranberry Sauce' is stapled to the recto of the rear cover, dating the month of publication at least; Christmas.
