Hardback. Condition: New. Integrated assessments of the impacts of, and adaptation to, climate change and variability at urban and regional scales are presented in this comprehensive volume. Six thematically distinct yet methodologically related projects illustrate 'horizontal' integration, which focuses on impacts and responses across different sectors, and 'vertical' integration, which traces changes from the climate system through to the economy and society. Areas of application include water resource allocation, wildfire management, agriculture, public health and urban infrastructure in the United States. In its development of methodologies and their applications to individual regions, this book presents a rich set of insights and a set of guides for investment and policymaking. Each of the six studies focuses on a finer geographic scale than is customary in integrated assessment research. They introduce innovations for impact analysis and contribute to the knowledge of localized experiences of climate change - how it affects a variety of sectors, how different stakeholders perceive its implications and adapt to it, and how decision support systems can promote dialogues between researchers, stakeholders and policymakers. The contributors' conclusions will be of great interest to urban and regional planners, environmental scientists and engineers, physical and human geographers, ecologists, environmental and natural resource economists, public administrators, public service providers and utility managers, among others.…

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - The trade wind, as the name implied, powered thetrade of ancient mariners. It also supplies theenergy for the circulation of the tropical andsubtropical atmosphere, known as the Hadleycirculation. The trade wind inversion (TWI), an airlayer that is several hundred meters thick at analtitude of a few hundreds to a few thousands meters,is the prevailing feature of the trade winds, guaranteeing the energy source for theHadley circulation. Within the TWI, the airtemperature increases, in contrast to the generaltrend of decreasing temperatures with increasedaltitude in the troposphere. The TWI creates adivision, with relatively dry air above and moist airbelow. Therefore the TWI is particularly importantfor the vertical vegetation distribution of tropicalmountain ecosystem. This book explores how the TWImay change in a future climate based on the data fromthe Hawaiian region. It will be of interest forthose concerned with the environmental impact ofclimate change in the tropics and subtropics.…

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - The results concerning large-scale ocean-atmosphere interaction in the North Atlantic and Pacific Ocean and its impact on global and regional climate variability are generalized. It is shown, that Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation (AMO) is crucial natural climatic signal for the Atlantic-European and Black Sea regions. It is characterized by amplitude which is the same order as human-induced centennial climate change and exceeds anthropogenic change at the decadal scale. The fast increasing of global and Northern Hemisphere air temperature in the last 30 yrs of XX century is due to coincidence of human-induced positive trend and transition from negative to positive phase of AMO. Recent global warming hiatus is the result of switch off of the AMO phase. Typical AMO temporal scale is dictated by meridional overturning variability in the North Atlantic and associated rate of thermohaline convection in the subpolar gyre. Pacific Decadal Oscillation is the other natural signal which impacts the regional climate variability. It is concluded that mitigation and adaptation is very important issue not only for the anthropogenic global warming, but also for the natural climate variability.…
