En 2012 nous sommes retournées au Mali-Sud, où nous avons travaillé dans le programme Femmes et Développement de la Compagnie Malienne pour le Développement des Textiles (CMDT) entre 1987 et 1995. Nous étions curieuses de découvrir ce qui avait changé po…ur les femmes dans la zone cotonnière depuis 1980. Les femmes ont-elles pu améliorer leur position économique? Les changements, sont-ils tangibles dans le contrôle de leur vie; leur participation sociale; la relation entre hommes et femmes ou entre les générations? Et quel a été le rôle de la CMDT dans ce domaine? Le séjour au Mali en 2012 a ajouté beaucoup de matériel aux documents et photos du passé. Les rencontres avec les anciens collègues et les femmes aux villages, ensemble avec les 40 histoires de vie, collectées par CERCAD auprès des femmes et des hommes dans la zone cotonnière, ont donné un tas d'informations. Il nous a surpris que le cadre informel des échanges ait contribué à une ambiance ouverte et parfois confidentielle. Pour nous un encouragement pour écrire ce livre. Le résultat est un de nos expériences du passé et de notre séjour en 2012, coloré des perceptions et des histoires des gens rencontrés. La compilation des textes, des photos et des citations ne représente pas un livre classique, mais plutôt un reportage accompagné des mots des femmes et des hommes qui ont partagé leurs expériences avec nous. Les changements dans la vie des femmes sont considérés dans le contexte du rôle de la CMDT étant le plus grand parastatal au Mali-Sud jusqu'à 2003.
