Questo libro nasce da un'analisi dell'archivio di Andrea Branzi consegnato al CSAC dell'Università degli Studi di Parma, in cui le modalità di sedimentazione dei materiali lasciano trasparire la centralità della narrazione fondata… anche su una pratica di costante riuso, ripresa, rielaborazione, e un approccio che rifugge da categorizzazioni e da rigide gabbie. Per cercare di restituire una tale complessità si sono tracciati due percorsi. Il primo strutturato a partire da una successione di parole che appartengono al discorso di Branzi. Tale sorta di glossario è integrato da una riflessione sulle forme della narrazione e sull'"interiorizzazione del tempo", una locuzione efficace per parlare di una questione cruciale per il dibattitto e per lo stesso Branzi a partire dalla fine degli anni '70: il rapporto con il tempo e con i tempi lunghi della storia e quindi anche del design. Il secondo tracciato è costituito da una "narrazione per segmenti forti", una successione di progetti strutturata in modo da restituire l'intreccio tra i territori indagati e la cronologia. I progetti sono stati selezionati partendo dall'archivio di Parma per far emergere innanzitutto la dimensione narrativa del lavoro di Branzi, che ha avuto nell'esposizione un momento complementare alla scrittura, e per cercare di comprendere la complessità di sollecitazioni e di verifiche condotte tra la seconda metà degli anni '70 e il decennio successivo: un momento di snodo importante tra la fine dell'esperienza di Archizoom Associati e il ritorno alla riflessione sulla metropoli dagli anni '90, in cui emergono nuove istanze grazie a una successione di sperimentazioni significative.
