Tischn…er, p.54 August Ferdinand Wolff, "geb. 1768 in Polnisch-Lissa, wo sein Vater Leibarzt des Fürsten Sulkowski war, studirte in Königsberg Jura, besuchte jedoch nur KANT'S und KLEIN'S Vorlesungen, ging darauf nach Berlin, von dort nach Göttingen, studirte Medicin und wurde 1790 mit der Diss.: "Analecta quaedam medica" Doctor. Er prakticirte zuerst in seiner Geburtsstadt, sodann in der Ukraine, liess sich schliesslich in Warschau nieder, wo er bald zu grossem Ansehen gelangte. Die polnische Regierung betraute ihn mit der Einrichtung des grossen Ujazdowschen Militärkrankenhauses, was er auch auf's Beste ausführte, wurde 1796 Physicus der Stadt Warschau und Reg.-Rath für Medicinalangelegenheiten, gehörte 1809 zu den Stiftern der Warschauer med. Akad., wurde ihr hervorragendster Lehrer und war 1810-1817 Präsident des Medicinal-Conseils für Polen. 1822 wurde auf sein Anstiften die Warschauer ärztliche Gesellschaft gegründet und war er viele Jahre hindurch ihr Präsident. 1830 gab er seine ausserordentlich grosse Praxis auf, setzte sich zur Ruhe und starb 14. April 1846. Er schrieb viel in poln., deutsch, und französ. Sprache; sein Hauptwerk ist: "Rys sztuki leczenia" (Grundzüge der Heilkunde, Warschau 1816, I; 1817, II)." K.P., Hirsch VI, p.317.
