This volume contains Paley's legendary treatise laying out his argument for the existence of God based on design, using the analogies of a watch, and an eye. This work had considerable influence upon Charles Darwin's thinking. Paxton;s 39 engraved plates begin with a breakdown of a watch, next an ey, and so on. "The principal object here had in view, has been to make such additions, as with the help of the engraved views, would bring the argument, as stated by the author, clearly within reach of all readers." - Preface by Ware.
