Paperback. Condition: New. Language: English. About The Book: The book delves into the subject of occult science in India and among ancient civilizations, with a focus on mystic initiations and the history of spiritism. It presents research conducted during the author's long stay in India, exploring the practices of those initia…ted into the sect of the Pitris, which refers to ancestral spirits. The book neither advocates nor opposes beliefs in spirits but offers a historical account. It covers phenomena produced by Fakirs, both magnetic and spiritual, and describes them impartially, leaving room for interpretation. The book also highlights the universality of these doctrines across various ancient cultures, including Egypt, Judaism, Finland, Alexandria, Gaul, and early Christianity. About The Author: Louis Jacolliot (1837-1890) was a French barrister, colonial judge, author, and lecturer who spent time in Tahiti and India during 1865-1869. He wrote "Occult Science in India" in the 1860s, where he explored the Indian roots of Western occultism, referencing a questionable Sanskrit text he created. He also authored "The Bible in India," comparing the lives of Krishna and Jesus. Jacolliot's claims were controversial and led to defamation lawsuits. He collected Sanskrit myths and proposed ideas like a sunken land named "Rutas" in the Pacific Ocean, influencing theories related to lost continents. He translated the Manu Smriti and select verses of the Tirukkural. The Title 'Occult Science in India and Among the Ancients: With an Account of their Mystic Initiations, and the History of Spiritism written/authored/edited by Louis Jacolliot, Translator: Willard L. Felt', published in the year 2023. The ISBN 9788121279277 is assigned to the Paperback version of this title. This book has total of pp. 279 (Pages). Near Fine with slight lean to binding, hinge at front starting, light wear at spine ends and corners minor soiling and rubbing to boards with faint toning…to contents. An attractive copy. French barrister Louis Jacolliot's scarce work on Indian mysticism and the influence it had on Western occultism and freemasonry. He refers to a Sanskrit text he calls Agrouchada-Parikchai, which is widely regarded to have been his invention, and bolsters the arguments of Helena Blavatsky for the existence of a sunken continent in the Pacific Ocean she called Lemuria. Jacolliot claimed a similar continent existed in the Indian Ocean he referred to as Rutas.
