Item description from seller

First English language edition, first printing. 275 pp. Bound in publisher's green decorative cloth lettered and stamped in gilt. Near Fine with slight lean to binding, hinge at front starting, light wear at spine ends and corners minor soiling and rubbing to boards with faint toning to contents. An attractive copy. French barrister Louis Jacolliot's scarce work on Indian mysticism and the influence it had on Western occultism and freemasonry. He refers to a Sanskrit text he calls Agrouchada-Parikchai, which is widely regarded to have been his invention, and bolsters the arguments of Helena Blavatsky for the existence of a sunken continent in the Pacific Ocean she called Lemuria. Jacolliot claimed a similar continent existed in the Indian Ocean he referred to as Rutas.
