La storia della musica riserva a volte delle sorprese e delle coincidenze straordinarie, rendendo ancora più meraviglioso il già ricco e affascinante mondo dei suoni. A volte si tratta di singolari accadimenti riguardanti la diffusion…e di un'opera o del travaglio della sua sopravvivenza negli anni, altre volte di vicende biografiche eccezionali riguardanti i compositori; in questo caso si tratta invece di un brano unico nella sua particolarità, data dalla sua genesi compositiva e dalla sorprendente doppia paternità. La Suite ("Suonata") SW 47 per liuto di Sylvius Leopold Weiss ha infatti la particolarità di poter disporre di una parte di violino concertante composta addirittura da Johann Sebastian Bach. La Suite BWV 1025 per violino e clavicembalo di Bach, un tempo ritenuta di dubbia attribuzione, ha infatti la parte del cembalo perfettamente coincidente con la Suite di Weiss, come si è scoperto di recente da un confronto delle fonti. La parte del violino invece interamente composta da Bach si configura come un'aggiunta melodica indipendente dal materiale musicale weissiano, quasi una libera improvvisazione sopra la Suite, e ricorda il simile intervento operato da Charles Gounod nel 1859 sul primo preludio del Clavicembalo ben temperato BWV 846 con la sua Ave Maria. L'unico brano che fa eccezione (qui pubblicato in appendice) è la Fantasia, non presente nella Suite di Weiss, quindi composta per violino e clavicembalo da Bach e non eseguibile senza la parte del violino. La Suite [Suonata] SW 47 di Weiss è un brano di notevole qualità musicale composto per liuto barocco a tredici cori. Poco eseguita da liutisti e chitarristi, possiede tutte le migliori caratteristiche delle composizioni del grande liutista tedesco: raffinatezza compositiva, eleganza di stile e varietà di espressione. La "melodia aggiunta" di Bach, composta con la consueta soprannaturale abilità, dona alla Suite originaria una nuova luce, come se essa si ripresentasse indossando un abito di straordinaria eleganza. Questa parte violinistica commenta la trama originaria liutistica senza soffocarla, giocando con gli elementi musicali weissiani estrapolandone spunti tematici, imitandoli o eseguendo libere divagazioni. Anche la parte bachiana rivela una grande immaginazione e varietà di espressione, sempre comunque aderente agli affetti dei movimenti weissiani, ai quali aggiunge spesso complessi incastri ritmici e un marcato spirito virtuosistico. La Fantasia iniziale incarna lo spirito proprio di questa forma musicale: una libera e capricciosa espressione dell'estro creativo dell'autore, in una successione di idee musicali sempre nuove.
