paperback. Condition: Good. Oklahoma Historical Society and the National Park Service for Washita Battlefield National Historic Site [Published Date: 2005]. Soft cover, 127 pp. Second edition, 2005. In good+ condition. Blue pictorial paper covers have light bumping to edges of covers and light overall scuffing. Preface page has…a check mark in blue ink in the margin. Otherwise pages are clean and unmarked. Black and white illustrations. A scholarly and detailed account of the 1868 Battle of the Washita. [from Preface] This book is the comprehensive report on a five - phase project conducted by the Oklahoma Historical Society under contract with the National Park Service. Between 1999 and 2003, staff from the Oklahoma Historical Society and Dr. Loretta Fowler, an anthropologist and private contractor, conducted research on the human occupation of the Washita Battlefield National Historic Site and the association of various peoples with the land over time. Tribes found to be associated with the site and that cooperated during this projectinclude the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes, Apache Tribes of Oklahoma, Caddo Tribe, Chickasaw Nation, Choctaw Nation, Comanche Nation, Kiowa Tribe, and Wichita and Affiliated Tribes. Thepurpose of the project was to collect information that would be used in the development of the site. The researchers also hoped to learn through a series of interviews what the communities in the area, in cluding the Indian communities, think about the site and what meaning it holds for them.
