Kiliaan publiceerde in 1599 het Etymologicum…Teutonicae Linguae, het eerste verklarende woordenboek van de Nederlandse taal - een mijlpaal in de Nederlandse lexicografie. In dit boek plaatsen elf specialisten Kiliaan en zijn woordenboek in de context van het humanisme, de vroege boekdrukkunst, de kosmopolitische meertaligheid van het 16de-eeuwse Antwerpen en de ontwikkeling van woordenboekwerk in de Nederlanden. Het boek is opgebouwd als essay- en catalogustekst, aansluitend bij een tentoonstelling. Er wordt gekeken naar het leven van Cornelis Kiliaan: zijn achtergrond, zijn werk, zijn samenwerking met drukker Plantijn, en zijn intellectuele omgeving. De auteurs beschrijven het ontstaan van zijn woordenboeken, waaronder het Dictionarium Teutonico-Latinum en het Etymologicum Teutonicae Linguae, en hoe die bijdragen aan de ontwikkeling van de Nederlandse taal en lexicografie. Daarnaast is er aandacht voor de historische context: het Antwerpse humanisme, de boekdrukkunst in de 16de eeuw, en de meertalige samenleving van die tijd. Het boek bevat ook illustraties van oude drukken, manuscripten en pagina's uit Kiliaans woordenboeken, wat zowel visueel als inhoudelijk inzicht geeft in zijn werk en prestatie.

Hieronymus Verdussen was de eerste van zijn familie: hij begon omstreeks 1589 in Antwerpen een uitgeverij-drukkerij-boekwinkel. Vele nazaten waren werkzaam in de boekenbranche, tot in de 19e eeuw aan toe. Hun handelscontacten strekten zich tot ver over de landgrenzen heen, hetgeen de Verdussens tot een van de interessantste uitgeversfamilies van de Zuidelijke Nederlanden maakt. In juni jl. verdedigde Stijn Van Rossem zijn proefschrift over deze familie Verdussen. Hij concentreert zich op de 17e eeuw: ?Ondanks oorlogen en economische crisissen wisten de Verdussens door een mengeling van voorzichtigheid, flexibiliteit, durf, volharding, imitatie en natuurlijk ook geluk, hun bedrijf uit te bouwen tot een belangrijke speler in de katholieke wereld? Van Rossem noemt de Verdussens ?informatiehandelaars? Omdat de familie zo lang in het boekenvak actief is gebleven, is een belangrijk deel van het archiefmateriaal bewaard gebleven. Van Rossem behandelt echter alleen de periode ten tijde van het Spaans bestuur van de Zuidelijke Nederlanden sinds de val van Antwerpen (1685) tot het begin van de Spaanse Successieoorlog (1702).
