Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book investigates the influence of the length of a test bar and its cross-sectional area on its ductility. The author demonstrates that a test bar's ductility depends on the specific ratio between its length and the square root of its area, and that this relationship applies across various bar sizes. The author's findings are significant because they underscore the impact of the bar's shape and size on its tensile properties and can help engineers and scientists obtain more accurate results when testing different materials. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. A bright, well-preserved copy of Werner Hegemann's monumental visual survey of interwar planning and housing, documenting the evolution of civic design between the City Beautiful era and the emergence of modern urbanism. Oversize hardcover (12.25" x 16.25"), pictorial dust jacket, 162 pages, b/w illustrations. Edited by William W. Forster and Robert C. Weinberg and with a forward by Sir Raymond Unwin. Published in 1938 by Architectural Book Publishing Company. Profusely illustrated throughout with photographs, plans, aerial views, housing schemes, exhibition proposals, and comparative studies from Europe and the United States, including material relating to New York, Washington, the 1939 World's Fair, Scandinavian housing developments, and Soviet planning experiments. Showcasing work by J.J.P. Oud, Eliel Saarinen, Ernst May, William Lescaze, Henry Wright, and a host of lesser-known regional architects and town planners. From the working library of architectural historian Carol Herselle Krinsky, with her ownership notation recording the book as a gift from Robert C. Weinberg, one of its two editors. Although written by Krinsky rather than constituting a formal presentation inscription, the notation preserves a direct line of transmission from a principal participant in the book's production to a scholar who would become a leading historian of twentieth-century architecture and urbanism. Within Krinsky's library, the volume assumes particular significance as an early intellectual and bibliographical anchor, linking interwar planning historiography to the postwar generation that extended and professionalized the field. Light bumping to blue cloth boards with some fraying to bottom edge; gilt titling exceptionally fresh. Dust jacket substantially complete, with mild damp-staining and expected edge chipping and losses at the spine ends and extremities. Interior clean and bright. An unusually compelling association copy of an imposing and increasingly elusive architectural publication, retaining its pictorial dust jacket.

Lewes, privately published, 1878. 4to (27.2 x 21.2 cm). v, 31 pp.; 23 lithographed plates. Original half calf over iridescent cloth boards. Spine with five raised, gilt-lined bands and gilt title. = A well-illustrated work that faced much difficulty in being published, as acknowledged by the author - the English botanist William Charles Unwin (1811-1887) - in a loose, printed leaf bound in front. Originally it was published in 13 issues, the last containing the title, introduction and a list of subscribers. It was printed at the "Sussex Advertiser" Office (Geo. P. Bacon), but that is not the publisher. Spine and leather corners much rubbed; front inner joint broken, otherwise a very good, clean and complete copy of this rather rare work. Stafleu and Cowan, 15639.
