First edition. *Luke Hansard (1752-1828) 'came as a young journeyman printer of 17 from Norwich to London with a single guinea in his pocket and built himself solid fame and fortune . . . . He printed the Journals, Bills, Reports and Papers of the House of Commons, while his eldest son, Thomas Curson Hansard, specialized in the less remunerative printing of the Debates. The descendants of both were ultimately vanquished in the prolonged struggle with the Stationery Office for the control of the printing of the House' [Foreword].
