C'est en effet là qu'il débuta l'analyse des sols afin de comprendre les facteurs favorables au vignoble. En 1847, son épouse hérita d'une propriété à Talmay (en Côte d'Or). Tout en gardant Givry il s'installa à Talmay pour y poursuivre ses recherches sur le moyen d'améliorer la fertilité des sols. Reliure en demi chagrin bleu nuit, dos à cinq nerfs orné de fleurons dorés, petites traces de frottements sur le dos, plats de papier marbré, gardes et contreplats de papier à la cuve, coins légèrement émoussés, tranches mouchetées, reliure de l'époque. The son of the chemist Louis Thénard, the agronomist Paul Thénard (18191884) conducted extensive research on soil fertility, begun on the estate of his in-laws in Givry, where he first undertook soil analysis in order to understand the factors favourable to vine cultivation. In 1847 his wife inherited an estate in Talmay (Côte-d'Or). While retaining Givry, he settled in Talmay to pursue his investigations into ways of improving soil fertility. Contemporary half midnight-blue shagreen, spine with five raised bands decorated with gilt tools; slight rubbing to the spine; marbled paper boards; marbled endpapers and pastedowns; corners lightly softened; sprinkled edges. A few insignificant marginal spots; a few distributor's stamps at the foot of some leaves. - I.
