John Ruskin & William Morris: Argued for the vitalistic and organic against the mechanical, promoting craftsmanship as a response to machine-made ugliness. Samuel Butler: Used satire in Erewhon to present a world where machines become self-evolving and eventually dominate their human creators. H.G. As director of the Los Angeles County Museum (1946?1951), he bridged European art history with Western U.S. curation and established a lasting national italic handwriting competition.…
