Hardcover. Condition: New. Intercropping system is an age-old cropping system where two or more crops coexist for a significant time of their growth period. In the present context of negative impacts on crop productivity and soil fertility, a system approach in cropping has become more relevant. The book 'Intercropping System' i…s divided into nine chapters that deal with the theory and practices of the intercropping system including recent research evidence. The first two chapters describe the overview of the intercropping system and complexity as well as the competitive relationship among component crops. The third chapter narrates the management options in the intercropping systems, while the fourth chapter highlights the multifaceted benefits of an intercropping system. Chapter 5 tells the suitability for the adoption of the intercropping system in organic agriculture. The sixth chapter describes how an intercropping system can ensure agricultural sustainability and some of the sustainable development Goals (SDGs). Chapter 7 illustrates the practice of alley cropping, a form of agroforestry, in resource-poor conditions. Legumes are considered an automatic choice in the intercropping system and hence, in the eighth chapter, the benefits of the inclusion of legumes as components have been described. Finally, in the ninth chapter, the performance of important crops in the intercropping system has been highlighted.

During present days, agriculture in developing countries is facing tremendous challenges due to adverse impacts of global warming as well as climate change, volatile marketing system, declining farm productivity and degrading natural resources. Farmers are trying hard to meet the market demand with qua…lity produces targeting choice of the valued customers. In the era of open economy, consumers are familiar with delicate and superior products of their preference. Progressive farmers are adopting latest and proven technologies of protected cultivation to bring quality products to the market. Protected cultivation is one of answers to most of the burning issues facing Indian agriculture including adversities due to uncertain and varying climatic conditions, climate change, improper uses of inputs and low productivity. Under this situation, protected cultivation can assure production of quality crops, assist to enrich diversity of produces and nutritional security with profitability. Protected cultivation generally refers to providing congenial conditions for better plant growth and it makes possible by controlling the climatic conditions fully or partially. It has a long heritage and it was adopted in the early part of the Roman Empire in temperate region during the first century AD. In the present day, it has become popular among the farmers of the tropical countries and the common interventions include greenhouses, shade-net houses, insect net houses, plastic tunnels, row covers, polyethylene film mulching and so on. The soil-less culture or hydroponics is also becoming popular. To maximize the input use efficiency in agriculture, there is need for providing precise inputs for a target output and it is possible by adoption of precision technologies. Precision agriculture, also known as smart agriculture, guides to manage the crop in site-specific manner with optimum use of inputs for a sustainable agricultural production. The book entitled 'Protected Cultivation and Smart Agriculture' focuses above aspects of contemporary farming. The book is comprised of five parts: I. Fundamentals of Protected Cultivation; II. Protected Cultivation of Vegetables and Fruits; III. Protected Cultivation of Flowers; IV. Hydroponics; V. Smart Agriculture. Under each segment, relevant chapters have been included. Editors expect that the book will be able to fulfill the requirement of the progressive farmers, students, researchers and hobbyists.

Agriculture, the way of life, has advanced from ploughing soil with a stone fitted on a tree-branch drawn by a horse, to monitoring the entire filed with artificial intelligence and drone technology. Thus, the dimension of it has changed a lot during last couple of decades. Agriculture is not confined m…anaging soils only rather understating what actually the factors going on behind producing the ultimate product, yield. Many new tools like biotechnology, nano-technology, machine learning in agriculture and so on have got their massive importance in the advancement of agriculture. Recently, climate change is one of the burgeoning issues in the agricultural sector. It is a big challenge to the scientists and the policy makers to develop a better resilient agriculture under changing climatic scenario. So, advanced agriculture must consider this aspect as well. Biotic stresses due to weeds, insect and diseases are highly responsible to reduce the crop yield. Better understanding the science behind these stresses and development of their management strategies accordingly is also very much needful. Now a days, horticulture sector has emerged out as an important and highly income generating option to the farmers. This particular sector of agriculture has got its advancement a lot in the recent past creating huge employment generations in the nation. A slogan called waste to wealth is very much trendy now. In the agricultural sector, nothing is waste actually. The so called waste of agriculture mainly consists of crop residues which can be converted into wealth. In the light of advancement one must not overlook the goal of sustainable agricultural development. Any advancement must be nature and biodiversity saving. All these are the milieu of editing a book entitled, Advanced Agriculture which includes the recent advances of agricultural sciences covering the aforementioned topics.

Buch. Condition: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - This book addresses the technologies that can be employed to tackle the challenges of global food security. Several recent studies have reported the significant impact of changing climate on the agricultural production, thus posing a challenge in achievin…g global food security. Thus, to mitigate these challenges there is an urgent need to develop approaches that may be helpful for the sustainability of food production. These approaches are based on three objectives: (i) sustainably increasing agricultural productivity to support equitable increases in farm incomes, food security, and development; (ii) adapting and building the resilience of food systems to climate change; and (iii), where possible, reducing GHGs emissions from agriculture. This book provides updated information for these climate-smart agricultural technologies that hold high potential to increase productivity, improve resilience, and provide efficient resource utilization. This book is a valuable resource for undergraduates, postgraduates, researchers, professors and policymakers in the field of agriculture, botany and agriculture extension functionaries.
