Buch. Condition: Neu. nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - There are about 30,000 plant species that are considered edible, but at present, very few of them are crops grown or cultivated on a commercially significant scale. On the other hand, there are several plants or their parts (leaves, shoots, fruits, seeds, hypogeal organs, and flowers) that are collected in the wild and consumed as raw or cooked food. Ethnobotany may offer a source of inspiration for agriculture, as wild edible species have the potential to lead food systems to be healthier, more sustainable, and resilient to climate change. Good tolerance to several abiotic and biotic stresses, as well as high nutritional value and excellent nutraceutical properties, are common traits of wild plants, making them promising candidates as new crops. Novel approaches for the outdoor/indoor cultivation of wild or underutilized species are needed to provide new opportunities for growers to produce new food categories, which would be particularly appealing to modern consumers. Cultivating wild species is also a way to preserve ethnobotanical heritage and promote genetic diversity. Furthermore, the cultivation of food plants normally gathered in the wild could reduce the health-related risks associated with pollution and biological contamination.…

Hardcover. Condition: new. Hardcover. This Special Issue focuses on the exploration and development of wild and underutilized plant species as novel horticultural crops capable of enhancing more resilient, diverse, and sustainable agri-food systems. In the context of increasing environmental pressures, climate change, and the growing demand for nutritious and functional foods, these species represent valuable genetic and biochemical resources with strong potential for domestication and cultivation. The Special Issue brings together recent advances in agronomy, plant physiology, food quality, and postharvest science to better understand how wild edible, medicinal, aromatic, and woody species can be successfully integrated into modern horticultural systems. Particular attention is given to their nutritional and phytochemical properties, adaptive traits, and responses to different cultivation strategies.Contributions address major challenges and opportunities related to genotype selection, crop management, product quality, consumer acceptance, and value chain development. By combining experimental studies and comprehensive reviews, this Special Issue highlights both opportunities and constraints associated with the transition. This item is printed on demand. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.…
