Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the fascinating evolution of locomotive engines, specifically spotlighting the innovative Fairlie engine and its impact on railway engineering during the 19th century. The author meticulously examines the limitations of traditional locomotive designs, such as weight distribution, adhesion challenges, and the constraints of fixed wheelbases. Against this backdrop, the book introduces the groundbreaking Fairlie engine, characterized by its double bogie design, even weight distribution, and enhanced traction capabilities. Readers will be captivated by the in-depth analysis of the Fairlie engine's advantages, including its ability to navigate sharp curves, reduce wear and tear on tracks, and provide greater power and efficiency compared to conventional locomotives. The book also addresses potential drawbacks and explores the ongoing debates and controversies surrounding this revolutionary technology. Through a careful examination of engineering principles, historical context, and expert opinions, this book sheds light on a pivotal moment in railway history and the quest for improved locomotive design. Ultimately, the book underscores the significance of the Fairlie engine's contribution to overcoming the limitations of traditional locomotives and paving the way for more efficient and adaptable railway systems. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…
