I fatti accadono in estate durante la mietitura e rientrano nelle truci vicende che devastavano le coste del Sud Italia nel XVI sec. Il racconto colpisce per la tenera e appassionante storia d'amore descritta, per il rapimento di una giovane donna perpetrato dai pirati levantini sulle coste del Mediterraneo, probabilmente lungo la Cala degli Infreschi, dove era facile per i corsari rifornirsi d'acqua dolce dalle sorgenti che sgorgano in mare dal monte Bulgheria e per il coraggio mostrato dal protagonista Petriello nel sostenere e proteggere la sua compagna. L'amore è il vero protagonista della novella, così saldo sa consentire a Petriello di affrontare anche i pirati. Libro.
