This paper examines the comic function of digression in Laurence Sterne's The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman, arguing that Sterne elevates digression from a subordinate narrative deviation to the governing principle of the text. By reading representative episodes (e.g., the fly, the chair, the recurrent "nose," and the embedded "Tale of Slawkenbergius") through a framework that draws on formalist and dialogic theories (notably Shklovsky's "game of materials" and Bakhtinian carnival and Menippean satire), the study shows how digression simultaneously fragments plot and expands thematic range via association, rhythm, etymology, and chance reference. These procedures generate a serio-comic tonal oscillation and produce a grotesque, multi-perspectival narrative "body" that parodies the codifying eighteenth-century English novel. Digression is further described as operating defensively (delay) and offensively (expansion), including typographical and enumerative proliferations that spatialize time and disrupt cause-effect syntax. The article concludes that Sterne's comic digression underwrites the novel's open, anti-teleological closure, presenting narrative as potentially infinite and resisting definitive genre categorization. Brossura. Condition: new. Caivano, 2026; br., pp. 108, cm 1,5x2,1. Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. The stories in this collection retrace my personal history of literary fascinations and unexpressed emotions, which arose from them over decades, while in me grew the suggestions inspired by the stories of Lovecraft, Poe, Borges, Calvino, Kafka, Musil and various other authors of the same strand. These suggestions gradually intertwined with my interests regarding surrealism, together with my studies on fairy tales. All this inner universe of mine has given life to these stories, sometimes minimal flashes that seem to spring from dreams, other times more complex narrative textures that unconsciously brought me back to the sense of wonder that captured me when I was a very young reader, when I perceived the metaphysical and grotesque spirit of unresolved curiosity for the human soul while it strives to grasp the pure mystery of creation. Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. This collection of personal lyrical reflections on life, love and nature is the result of a long and troubled reworking of thoughts and phrases dedicated to real and/or virtual friends and their comments on social media. Some phrases-poems were born in the extemporaneous incubator of creative solitude. Calling them aphorisms alternately seemed belittling and emphatic, even ambitious, because in most cases I felt them grafted onto a lyrical trunk as they gushed out as pure meditation. The temptation of poetry, in its hermetic and symbolic vein, permeates many of these small compositions, which are also reflections on feelings and apparitions, in the form of fibrillations - of the big/little things of the world - as if they were new, unexpected, unexplored. Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. This item is printed on demand. Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback.
