Hardcover. Condition: Very Good+ with no dust jacket. Unmarked, except for initials on inside cover page. ; Many faults appear to form persistent zones of weakness that fundamentally influence the distribution, architecture and movement patterns of crustal-scale deformation and associated process in both continental and oceanic regions. This book brings together papers by an international group of Earth Scientists to discuss a broad range of topics centred upon the controls of fault weakening and the role of such faults during lithosphere deformation. Readership: Academic structural-tectonic geologists, microstructural geologists, rheologists, geophysicists and people studying geodynamics. Also, petroleum geologists, hardrock geologists, mining geologists, hydrogeologists and metamorphic geologists. Suitable for postgraduate students. ; Geological Society Special Publication, No. 186; Textbook; B&W Photographs; 9.90 X 6.70 X 1 inches; 344 pages DC2.

Soft cover. Condition: New. This book forms the second of a two part volume containing a compilation of 35 classic papers on extensional tectonics, with particular emphasis on petroleum-related features. Each part comprises a set of scientifically significant papers from the last 20 years taken from the Journal of the Geological Society and various Special Publications of the Geological Society. The present volume focuses on faulting and fault-related processes under the headings: Geometry and Spatial Attributes of Normal Faults; Active Normal Faulting and Seismicity; Analogue Modelling; and Intra-Reservoir Faulting and Fluid Flow. The book begins with a new scientific and historical review of the subject and the context of the papers contained therein. By compiling some of the most important papers on extensional tectonics Bob Holdsworth & Johnathan Turner have created a volume intended for a wide readership. It is of special relevance to MSc and PhD students working in any Petroleum-related scientific field and to Petroleum industry geoscientists around the world. It is also of great use to undergraduates studying courses on Structural Geology/Tectonics, Petroleum Geology, Basin Dynamics etc.

Hardcover. Condition: New. As a result of its relative buoyancy, continental crust is rarely subducted meaning that successive episodes of continental deformation imparts a complex geological character that is not found in younger oceanic lithosphere. This character is largely the result of two related processes: (1) reactivation, involving rejuvenation of discrete structures; and (2) reworking, involving the repeated metamorphism, deformation and magmatism of a previously tectonised crustal or lithospheric volume. Characterising the style, distribution and timing of reactivation and reworking in different continental settings should therefore provide a crucial dataset with which to evaluate the spatial patterns, temporal evolution and dynamic controls of tectonic rejuvenation of the continents and continental lithosphere. A combination of review and research papers are presented which highlight some of the issues and problems associated with the characterisation and modelling of continental reactivation and reworking. Readership: Metamorphic petrologists, tectonocists, geochronologists, structural geologists and geodynamicists, as well as, sedimentologists and igneous petrologists.

Hardcover. Condition: New. 544 pages. Normal faults are the primary structures that accommodate extension of the brittle crust. This volume provides an up-to-date overview of current research into the geometry and growth of normal faults. The 23 research papers present the findings of outcrop and subsurface studies of the geometrical evolution of faults from a number of basins worldwide, complemented by analogue and numerical modelling studies of fundamental aspects of fault kinematics. The topics addressed include how fault length changes with displacement, how faults interact with one another, the controls of previous structure on fault evolution and the nature and origin of fault-related folding. This volume will be of interest to those wishing to develop a better understanding of the structural geological aspects of faulting, from postgraduate students to those working in industry.

Hardcover. Condition: New. The world's mountain ranges are the clearest manifestations of long-term deformation of the continental crust. As such they have attracted geological investigations for centuries. Throughout this long history of research a few keynote publications stand out. One of the most important is the Geological Survey's 1907 Memoir on The Geological Structure of the North-West Highlands of Scotland. The Memoir summarized some of the Geological Survey's finest work, and outlined many of the principles of field-based structural and tectonic analysis that have subsequently guided generations of geologists working in other mountain belts, both ancient and modern. The thematic set of 32 papers in this Special Publication celebrate the 100th anniversary of the 1907 Memoir by placing the original findings in both historical and modern contexts, and juxtaposing them against present-day studies of deformation processes operating not only in the NW Highlands, but also in other mountain belts.
