Here in May of 1909, the Vancouver firm of Macdonnell and Gzowski completed two spiral tunnels that solved one of the CPR's big financial headaches. Before the tunnels Sir John A.'s national railroad had one section of unacceptably steep grade. These 80 pages are PACKED with railroad buff facts. Delightful read. Plenty of b/w photos illustrating - PLUS 4 maps. Learn about Glacier House, Big Hill Tea Room, Cathedral Siding, the pilot beam, 2-8-0 locomotives and the jokulhlaup. Cond : Paper wrapper is v. dark brown with white lettering. Cover photo is of Selkirk 5925 entering the Lower Spiral Tunnel. Tiniest of wear at points, edges crisp, spine fine, colours bright, binding tight. P/O name on half-title. No marks, creases nor tears. Almost giftable !!
