Se il Manifesto futurista esigeva dal nuovo romanzo svecchiatore, novatore e velocizzatore dei testi "brevissimi, attualistici, avveniristici, dinamici, simultanei", Bellanova provo' a darne una personale interpretazione con capitoli brevi e fantasiosi accorgimenti tipografici. "Una partenza acrobatica d'aeroplano faceva vedere, non soltanto nelle parole, ma nelle lettere movimentate, l'alzarsi dell'aereo e i suoi 'capitomboli' e avvitamenti acrobatici, zig-zaganti; i personaggi erano descritti con intenzioni plastiche, quasi alla Prampolini; i colori erano evocati nel blu notturno del mare, nel fanale rosso della ferrovia o dell'Alfa Romeo, e i profumi nei capelli della protagonista. L'aeroporto vibra di 'prepotenti spavalderie di motori'. La cerimonia nuziale di Adriana e di Enzo diventa un aeroviaggio di nozze. Un dettaglio da non trascurare e' l'ironico 'Indice passatista' dell'autore, cioe' la descrizione in sintesi, capitolo per capitolo, dei vari episodi, gia' condensati in quindici pagine, come invece sarebbero stati stesi in 28 capitoli da uno scrittore tradizionalista che avrebbe potuto svilupparli in un romanzone analitico non inferiore alle 700 pagine. Bruno Corra definisce Bellanova 'potente creatore d'immagini di compenetrazioni liriche e di atmosfere spirituali'. Il libro appare ai suoi recensori come 'una vera marcia di giovinezza', 'il piu' veloce dei romanzi veloci'. Guido Mazzoni ne elogia la disposizione tipografica" (Verdone, Morano, "Drammaturgia e arte totale. L'avanguardia internazionale: autori, teorie, opere", 2005, p. 74). ITA.

The final volume to appear under the movement's illustrious 'Edizioni Futuriste di 'Poesia'' impri…nt, it was a product of Futurism's concluding (and undoubtedly least studied) phase, extending from Italy's entry into World War Two in 1940 to the death of the movement's leader, F. T. Marinetti, four years later. First published in August 1943 - between the fall of Mussolini's Fascist regime in July, and the invasion of the Italian mainland by Allied troops that September - it has been seen as an attempt 'to construct an epic of everyday life by means of a first-hand account of the war'. However, the ultimate purpose of this frequently moving work would appear to have been of a consolatory, 'spiritual' nature, offering a means by which Bellanova and his readers might, if only temporarily, 'escape the terrible devastation of our adored Italy through Art'. With its elegiac tone and precise, vividly imagistic language, 'Bombarded Naples Sings' challenges stereotypical notions as to the grandiloquent, florid and aggressive nature of late Futurist poetry - typically characterized as little more than crude propaganda - addressing such themes as love, friendship and the beauty of the natural world, in addition to exploring more familiar aspects of the movement's 'machine aesthetic'.
