Trade Paperback. Condition: As New. 8th Printing. 202 Pages with General and Recipe Indexes. A brand new book with flawless interior text pages. Candida albicans known as yeast, ordinarily lives in harmony with acidophilus the good bacteria, that aids digestion and elimination. But antibiotics, hormones, birth control pills, and steroids can suppress acidophilus, allowing yeast to grow unchecked. This yeast reacts just as does the yeast used in baking. When warm water and sugar are added to commercial yeast, it bubbles up so rapidly it almost seems to explode.Yeast acts in much the same way in your body if the internal flora is unbalanced. Unfortunately, the typical all-American diet works against a natural balance of yeast and acidophilus. Over-processed foods, refined carbohydrates, alcoholic beverages, and sugar are foods which encourage yeast growth, making the body a paradise for Candida. Once yeast has colonized the body it becomes a task to drive it out. The original Candida diet, designed to stunt yeast, eliminated all sweeteners and fruit. Carbohydrates were ruled out completely. Meat and vegetables, prepared in the blandest way, were left. Physicians soon discovered that patients who had been placed on this radical diet were weak and dispirited. As a result some complex carbohydrates have been allowed in amounts that depend on the patient's tolerance. Maureen, who has been working with Candida patients for ten years, developed a program for Helen that allowed her not only manageable amounts of complex carbohydrates but also safe levels of other taboo foods. The purpose of this book is to offer guidelines for a diet you can live with and will help you cleanse and rebalance your system, making Candida a problem that you can solve. …

Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. No Better Boy tells the story of a master of traditional Irish music: the legendary East Clare fiddler Paddy Canny, whose haunting music was remarkable for its virtuosity and sophistication. In the 1950s, when he was in his thirties and at the pinnacle of his career, Paddy Canny became a national radio star, played solo in Carnegie Hall, toured England with the renowned Tulla Ceili Band, and made a much-loved recording. All were extraordinary achievements for a man raised on a marginal farm, where the gramophone records that inspired him were accessible only through the good grace of neighbours. In richly evocative prose, Helen OShea distils stories of success and adversity that Paddy Canny told to family and friends, to radio interviewers and historians. These stories illuminate rural life in mid-twentieth-century Ireland, major social and economic changes, and the decline and revival of traditional music and dancing. A compelling story told with passion and insight, this is a book for readers with an interest in Irelands social history and for music lovers everywhere. No Better Boy includes annotated transcriptions of music played by Paddy Canny and his contemporaries, sourced from archives and personal collections as well as commercial recordings. No Better Boy: Listening to Paddy Canny by Helen O'Shea tells the story of a master of traditional Irish music: the legendary East Clare fiddler Paddy Canny, whose haunting music was remarkable for its virtuosity and sophistication.
