Softcover. Condition: Sehr gut. 1. Auflage. Z : 240 pgs, 275 color & 8 bw. illustrations - In 2007, Serpentine Gallery Co-Director Hans Ulrich Obrist and artist Olafur Eliasson invited more than 100 leading artists, architects, filmmakers, academics and scientists--including Peter Cook, Simon Baron-Cohen, Gloria Friedmann, Neil Turok, Kim Gordon, Spartacus Chetwynd, Simon Forti, Fia Bäckstrom and Joseph Grigely--to expand the notion of experimentation for their 24-Hour Experiment Marathon, held in the Rem Koolhaas-designed Serpentine Gallery Pavilion. In the tradition of Obrist's now-legendary ongoing 24-Hour Interview Marathon, the crowds were standing-room-only and the action never stopped. This publication details the more than 40 screenings, performances and experimental films making up this genre-bending blend of science and art.…

Softcover. Condition: Sehr gut. 1. Auflage. Z : 256 Seiten/pages with 240 color illustrations. - The definitive book on filmmaker, writer, founder of Anthology Film Archive and all-round cinema avatar Jonas Mekas, this compendium of materials is essential for all fans of independent American cinema. Since the early 1950s, when he acquired his first Bolex camera (shortly after moving to New York from Lithuania), Mekas has practiced a kind of diaristic filmmaking, which developed into a distinct style in the 1960s, where his documentations of John Lennon, Allen Ginsberg and other member of the New York counterculture were blended with footage of the city's street life and everyday incidents. Since the 1990s, he has also produced so-called "frozen film stills" and installation video pieces. This book presents his newest work (such as the huge video piece "365 Day Project," for which he filmed a video every day for a year) alongside his texts--journals, poems, letters, essays and interviews--and a huge array of historical photographs, posters and other ephemera. …

Paperback. Condition: New. This small but impeccably produced catalog introduces a never-before- exhibited series of works by the late British artist John Latham (1921-2006). The 1994 works, called Canvas Events, features spray-painted and twisted canvas on wooden stretchers. The works challenge the conventional relationship between canvas and stretcher, turning the traditional site of the painting into a sculptural field. Latham often worked with spray paint; he often described the dotted sprinkled result as miniature universes. Reproductions of the 1994 Canvas Events are accompanied by a conversation between Latham, Hans Ulrich Obrist and Barbara Steveni, in which they discuss the artist's work over time.…
