Uden den næsten alti…d manglende kortrulle med 3 kort. * Den dygtige sønderjyske korttegner Johannes Mejer er en af de talentfulde kulturpersoner, hvis rige evner og foretagsomhed kom i klemme i tidernes ugunst under de ulyksalige Svenskekrige 1657-60. Han havde i 1652 udgivet sine uhyre detaljerede og fremragende kort over Hertugdømmerne I Danckwerths atlas over Slesvig og Holsten. I løbet af 1650erne udarbejdede Mejer et kolossalt materiale, der nu skulle blive til et atlas over det samlede danske rige. Så kom krigen, der kostede riget den østlige tredjedel. Mejers arbejde endte i arkivet, omend Frederik III i sit arbejdsværelse kunne glæde sig over en stor planche med Mejers håndtegnede generalkort over Danmark. Hele Mejers materiale foreligger i denne smukke facsimileudgave, der giver et meget fint og detaljeret billede af det Danmark, der få år senere blev ruineret og lagt øde af livtaget med svenskerne. I sagens natur omfatter værket hele det historiske Danmark: Skåne, Halland, Blekinge er med sammen med Gulland/Gotland, der godt nok var blevet afstået i 1645.
