A genteel exercise programme for ladies from the early 20th century, comprising '15 minutes exercise a day for health's sake'. Jørgen Peter Müller (1866-1938) was a Danish gymnastics coach & author. He produced a number of exercise books starting with 'My System' in 1904. Many of his practices have since been accepted by the medical community and form part of modern day exercise routines. Scarce in this edition.

Condition; Rare original Hardback binding in good condition, edge wear/loss and some loss front. Contents Very good, clean & tight. The odd minor number or underline in pencil, s…o can easily be rubbed out if you wish to, apart from that, this copy shows almost no signs of use within. Jørgen Peter Müller 1866 - 1938 was a Danish gymnastics educator and author & a lieutenant in the Engineering Corps of the Danish Army. His various health/exercise books were published in German from 1904 and were so popular that so after translated to English and many other languages. This title was first published in English in 1911, this copy is undated, states forth edition, revised edition & copyright 1912 in the United Stated, so presume this was published in about 1912 as all his books were so popular they were always printing more editions. Infact they were the most successful exercise books published at this time, and for a time was the most famous health/exercise person in the world. Müller moved to London and opened a physical culture institute in 1912. The Gymnasium was a great success with many famous people attended it including the Duke of Windsor, the Prince of Wales, Lord Baden-Powell etc., who all visited. Over a million students visited the Institute. "My System" Men's version was compulsory in the British Army and Navy during World War One. Much of what was stated in his system has since been accepted by the medical community, with many of his basic movements being used in modern-day physical therapy and rehabilitation, so he was way before his time. It has become very rare to find a copy now for sale with a good original decorative front/rear cover, as the decorative paper was glued to front/rear covers and therefore were so easy to damage & contents to be so good.
