Buch. Condition: Neu. Neuware -The aim of this volume is to present a quite recent focus on the ways biological materiality of bodily existence comes into closest contact with literary or cultural communication. The studies examine not only how breathing, understood as a complex site of intersections between life and language, i…s thematised, but also how it becomes a textual factor in literary writing. The topicality of the subject, given the broader cultural, social, and political context, is obvious: the climate crisis and the pandemic in recent years, or even a sentence that occupied the political public for months in 2020 ('I can't breathe'), have confronted us with the fact that breathing has become a visible medium. Literature's interest in breathing is of course nothing new: as the fundamental intersection of the linguistic and biological conceptions of life, it has been present in ideas about the creation, transmission, and reception of literature since the beginnings of European culture.Breathing, therefore, must clearly be a starting point for all examinations of literature and language in cultural studies, as it bears witness to the dependence of language on life in a biological context. 343 pp. Englisch, Deutsch.

With this book, the Hungarian Academy of Rome offers to the medievalist community a thematic synthesis about Hungarian medieval art, reconstructing, in a Eu…ropean perspective, more than four hundred years of artistic production in a country located right at the heart of Europe. The book presents an up-to-date view from the Romanesque through Late Gothic up to the beginning of the Renaissance, with an emphasis on the artistic relations that evolved between Hungary and other European territories, such as the Capetian Kingdom, the Italian Peninsula and the German Empire. Situated at the meeting point between the Mediterranean regions, the lands ruled by the courts of Europe west of the Alps and the territories of the Byzantine (later Ottoman) Empire, Hungary boasts an artistic heritage that is one of the most original features of our common European past. The book, whose editors and authors are among today's foremost experts in medieval art history, is divided into four thematic sections the sources and art historiography of the medieval period, the boundary between history, art history and archaeology, church architecture and decorations, religious cults and symbols of the power , with a selection of essays on the main works of Hungarian medieval art held in museums and public collections. Hardcover. Condition: new. Hardcover. The use of documentary is viewed as a gesture of split, as it places literary fiction between factual and fictional claims to truth (Riffaterre, 1990). In other words, the documentary claim to authenticity violates literary structural principles. As a result, the volume's first premise is the impact of the documentary pact (Foley, 1986) on defining literature. The emphasized referential function of documentary literature results in the constant crossing of the boundary between fact and fiction, which proves unstable and transfigures reality (A. Danto). The second premise is that 1989, with the fall of the Berlin Wall, the disintegration of the Eastern Bloc, and the end of the Cold War, can be viewed as a wide-ranging political caesura that not only encouraged the emergence of new documentary literary practices in Central European literatures, but also repositioned the boundaries between the literary and the documentary. Zur Pluralitaet der dokumentarischen Formen in zentraleuropaeischen Gegenwartsliteraturen On the Plurality of Documentary Forms in Central European Contemporary Literatures Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.
