Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. I originally wrote The Sword of Fortune as a play with a manual typewriter in the attic of my wife, Fran, and I's Cape Cod-style home on a table with a lamp in 1983. The play was never produced because the community theatre group to whom I offered it was dead set against producing new work b…y local writers. They were afraid that nobody would come to see it because it was a show that nobody ever heard of! That seemed silly to me, but I accepted the rejection and have turned the play into a novel that I think you will enjoy!Do you believe in love, ghosts, hidden treasure, and the bad people who would dare to steal it? If so, then this book is definitely for you. As a writer, I much prefer the novel art form to the play because it allows me to go anywhere and do anything with the story without being limited to the physical confines of the stage. The novel is a wonderfully flexible creative art form that works very well in tandem with the writer and his or her readers.I hope that you enjoy this book as much as I enjoyed writing it. I will admit that it made me laugh, cry, and cheer as I created the story, all the human emotions that seize us all at one time or another. All the characters became very real to me. It was as if they were in my den at my computer keyboard with me as I worked because I created them. I totally empathized with each one, the good and the bad.For me, as I am sure that it is for all writers, the saddest part of every book is when I have to type the words "The End," when I realize that the journey is over. I came to love Sir Michael, Pamela, Amanda, Brian, and Loretta; cheer for the constable and his officers; and despise Karl and Trudy. I hope that you will too. This item is printed on demand. Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - After writing and publishing myriad newspaper and magazine articles beginning in my junior year of high school, as a journalism major at Bowling Green State University, and during my four-year career as a military writer in the United St…ates Air Force, I wanted to write and publish a book. Beyond the many plays I have written, two of which have been produced by community theater groups, writing a book is the only writer's challenge I have yet to accomplish. Knowing that nonfiction is often the better choice for a first-time author regarding publication as opposed to fiction, I decided to write a memoir about my adventurous and mischievous childhood through my maturation as a fulfilled adult. The title Why I Never Had Kids struck me as being appropriate because it is the truth. Neither my wife, Fran, nor I ever wanted to deal with the childhood antics, some just downright dangerous, related in this book. I started making the notes two years ago and wrote the book in about two months after retiring from my corporate job in late 2018. Most of the incidents were fun and easy to write, but some were not. The pieces 'Losing Pepper' and 'The Wreck in West Virginia' resurrected painful memories but had to be included. This book is absolutely a work of nonfiction. The dialogue is as close to being exact as I can remember it. The incidents are correct. Everything you read here really happened. Reference is made to my mother's sometimes stinging sense of discipline, but she was in no way a child beater. She was a lovely, loving woman who made sure that my brother, sister, and I were properly fed, clothed, and grew up in a well-maintained home. She reveled in our successes and softened our failures, but Mom had rules. You didn't talk back, swear, sneak cigarettes, or drink Dad's beer. We all came out the better for that. Mom and Dad did things that I do not think I could have done as a parent, particularly the family vacations that took us hundreds of miles from home by car, with Dad doing the driving. I had a wonderful childhood, and the intent of this work is to deliver testimony to that and to entertain you as well.
