Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. 2022 Brill hardcover edition. Light reading wear else very good condition. From the cover: 'Making it old' has been a longstanding and currently particularly important counterpart to the predominant preoccupation, in Western art history, with 'making it new'. This interdisciplinary volume explores retro forms and styles, and their functions, in literature and music since the nineteenth century in a wide range of texts and musical genres from Goethe's Faust and Louis Spohr's Historical Symphony to Kurt Schwitters's Ursonate, Ezra Pound's Cantos, present-day opera and pop music. In addition, it contains an essay on a recent, innovative novelistic experimentation with the musicalization of fiction. The volume is of interest to scholars and students of literature, music and memory studies as well as to readers generally interested in nostalgia and cultural retro phenomena.
