Presidio difensivo e luogo di reclusione, nel tempo ha assunto la connotazione di luogo di passaggio, ma anche di luogo dove consumare una lunga permanenza forzata. Una preziosa testimonianza di questo aspetto della storia dell'isola è offerta dall'ex-carcere, realizzato avvalendosi delle fabbriche storiche del Forte San Giacomo, una delle più rilevanti testimonianze di architettura militare di età moderna ancora esistenti nel contesto siciliano. Tra storia e progetto di paesaggio, gli autori propongono una ricostruzione delle vicende storiche del monumento e una possibile riconfigurazione della fabbrica e delle sue pertinenze. Libro.

La mostra "Palermo e la peste dell'insonnia" (marzo-settembre 2023), allestita negli spazi temporaneamente non utilizzati dell'Edificio 8 del campus universitario di Palermo, interpreta questa metafora in chiave etico-politica, riflettendo su memoria e oblio. Frutto di un lavoro collettivo di docenti, studenti, ricercatori e dottorandi, l'iniziativa ha mostrato al pubblico la ricchezza delle collezioni scientifiche del D'Arch: disegni, modelli, fotografie, arredi e documenti che testimoniano la storia dell'architettura e dell'ingegneria a Palermo attraverso l'attività di figure come Basile, Zanca, Colajanni, De Simone e altri. La mostra ha promosso il dibattito sulla memoria identitaria della città e la necessità di tutelarne il fragile patrimonio architettonico. Per la prima volta, una selezione delle collezioni è stata esposta in un percorso che unisce ricerca, divulgazione e riflessione critica. Il volume che ne deriva intende lasciare traccia di questo patrimonio, stimolando la sua valorizzazione e conservazione. Libro.
