Restaurato il frontespizio della parte I, con la perdita parziale della parte inferiore; restaurata anche la parte inferiore di carta 2, senza però perdita di testo. Legatura in pergamena molle moderna. Gore d'acqua marginali alle carte della seconda parte, arrossature nel testo. L'esemplare elencato da Riccardi si compone anche di una carta di figure (la fig.IIII), che manca nel nostro esemplare. Trattandosi di una carta per uso pratico, adoperabile anche senza bisogno del testo, pochissimi sono gli esemplari che la tengano. A tal proposito, si confronti: Choix (sopra citato) e Spaducci, Guida al libro d'antiquariato, 1973-76. Edizione originale, molto rara. Prima ed unica edizione di questo libro di epoca barocca che descrive la geometria di base, le misurazioni delle distanze, le altezze e le superfici, con le consuete applicazioni sulla costruzione, fortificazione e assedi. Malombra promosse un notevole miglioramento tecnico sui calcoli delle misurazioni, introducendo un compasso di proporzione che era dotato di una scala graduata rimovibile per le distanze e direzioni fissata mediante un cuscinetto a sfere. Cfr. Treccani "Poco si sa di Malombra, un architetto praticante al servizio di Ferdinando II di Toscana L'opera, presentata dal M. come il primo di più libri sullo stesso argomento - progetto, questo, che non ebbe un seguito -, è costituita da due parti in un unico volume, ognuna delle quali dotata di propri frontespizio e sottotitolo. Il libro è, nella prima parte, un notevole trattato tecnico di prospettiva cartografica, nel quale compaiono i primi suggerimenti noti per l'uso dei distanziometri in cartografia. In questa sezione, oltre a essere illustrate le caratteristiche di due strumenti di misurazione in grado, si dimostra l'ottimizzazione delle prestazioni dei distanziometri, il cui utilizzo avrebbe dovuto rendere più semplice e pratica l'acquisizione di dati. Pur se il M. ne sottolinea l'originalità, fino ad attribuirsene la paternità, in realtà gli strumenti in questione sembrerebbero essere semplici rielaborazioni dello strument0-madre, al più dotati di alcune migliorie tecniche. La seconda parte, invece, è specificatamente dedicata al rilievo e al disegno cartografico delle fortificazioni militari, delle loro più importanti emergenze e del territorio sul quale insistono. Nel libro sono contenute circa 60 pregevoli tavole aventi come soggetto l'utilizzo del distanziometro, le cui matrici, realizzate con la tecnica dell'acquaforte su rame, dovrebbero essere opera dello stesso Malombra.".
